Why pilates?

What is Pilates?

Pilates, pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates, is a mind-body exercise system designed to optimize physical fitness in people at every level of physical ability. Pilates (1880–1967) was a German expatriate who first made his mark in England during WWI by developing a series of exercises and innovative equipment to help prisoners of war regain strength and mobility. When Joseph Pilates immigrated to New York, the local professional dance community discovered that his conditioning technique, called ‘Contrology’ helped prevent injury and improve strength while maintaining long, even muscle tone

Benefits of Pilates

Pilates is a whole body workout, focusing on working all parts of the body correctly and evenly with a strong focus on the core, to ensure that it becomes stable and strong. It addresses muscular imbalances and aims to achieve optimal body alignment. With regular practise you will find that your balance, strength and coordination increases, your posture is more aligned, an increase in muscle tone and for those of you with bad backs and neck tension, the pain should be eased with regular practise. Understanding how your body works and moves and it's capabilities, also helps to prevent unnecessary injuries. You will find that what you learn in class, you will then be able to incorporate into your daily movement.

Is Pilates right for me?

No form of exercise is appropriate for absolutely everyone, but the STOTT PILATES® method is appropriate for most people. As with any training program, always consult with a medical professional before beginning. A modified program can be created if you have any physical limitations. Please get in touch to discuss your individual requirements, I’m always happy to help.
